Where
do you suppose the rarest "plant" in the world grows?

In some hot exotic climate, hidden away in the lush tropical depths of a jungle...maybe it grows in an oasis of flowers, blooming in the middle of the driest desert...or maybe its situated SLAP bang, in the middle of a Peak District dale. What?...No way!! You probably won't believe me if I tell you, that here in the Peak District we have one of the rarest plants in the world. It's called the Derbyshire Feather moss and it's so rare that its location is a tightly guarded secret. It looks a bit like a "feather duster" and there's only one square meter of it growing on the planet.
A tiny cutting of the moss is being kept safe (in another secret location! ) in case the existing Feather moss patch should die. Surprising to think that this near extinct plant should grow in the heart of the Peak District. It goes to prove what a special place the "Park" is... |
