BARKIN 'MAD "If you go down to the woods today"...
APPRECIATE WOODS@go hug a tree.com

Oh ok...may be not! Instead what hundreds of people this year did was hop along to the forestry Team's freebie open days.

On offer was the chance to see traditional and modern crafts. Over 120 schoolies visited and got to try their hand at making things...some furniture for the 'rents front room...or the more excitingly named dream catcher, believed by native Americans to attract happy dreams.

Displays showed timber felling, tree surgery, sculpture using a chain saw and tons more. And the experts were on hand to delve into the mysteries of woodlands and the way they fit into the modern day PeAk Park.

The open days named...(drum roll please!) "Woodlands at work" aimed to tell MOPs! (members of the public!) that woodlands are a vital part of our landscape. Not only are they havens for wildlife, and heavens for people who spend most of their lives living in the city, but they date way back, they have HISTORY!

The heritage has been handed down through generations with loads of craft skills. The events (open to schools and mops!) saw two tree sculptors strutting their stuff. Jason Thompson who uses traditional tools and Andrew Frost who tackled his carving issues with a chain saw! Chizzlin' stuff!

Watch out for more woodland crafts in Y2K (y' know this year...!)> Or E-mail p.eak! and woof at their hotmail address:
