There are only two know sites in the Peak District where you can find the British Crayfish. This creature, with a brown back and silver white underneath, is now under threat from it's "oversized" American relative. As well as invading it's habitat, the Americans have brought in a fatal disease. They are immune to it but it could kill off the British crayfish.

Over the years there has been a decline in the numbers of British Crayfish and now they are even more threatened. Positive action needs to be taken. Conservationist in the Peak District are helping to protect their future of the crayfish by producing a plan which will breed and reintroduce the British breed before they disappear altogether from our rivers.
